Pokemon Ruby: Nuzlocke Challenge - Pt. 7

DAY 7: Mistakes Cost Lives
I starting to wish that I had chosen the Root Fossil instead of the Claw Fossil. Lileep could have been an asset to the team; it being Rock and Grass with great defenses (even moreso after it evolves) would have been a great defensive player on the team. Ah, well...

Anyway, after a few battles in the northern section of Route 115, I decided to box Fluff and try to get Sandra up to speed. I headed to Mauville, where Wattson asked me to shut off the generator inside. Sure, why not?

I headed there, and after going deeper inside, I was encountered by an Electrode. ...Shit. It probably had Selfdestruct, and I didn't want to lose another ally. So, I pulled Sandra back, and sent out Nigel. I was hoping that it would be able to survive Spark and weaken the power of Selfdestruct. Well, it did survive Spark with very little HP, along with Paralysis, but it was still alive. Seeing no hope here, I gave the order to retreat.

...It couldn't.

...I could do nothing but watch in horror, as the Electrode used another Spark to finish off Nigel... Bastard. BASTARD!!

I immediately used my Escape Rope to get out of there. ...With out hearts heavy, we had to bury another teammate, one who stuck by me since Slateport (more-or-less). All thanks to a stupid mistake on my part.

(Later, I did some research, I found that that Electrode was only one level away from learning Selfdestruct, and that Electrode have a 1% chance of appearing there. So, Nigel fell not only to a bad call on my part, but because of bad luck.)

...And I lost an opportunity to expand my team. I really could have used an Electric-type, too...

With the latest loss over our heads, I decided to train the team elsewhere, and to get another Water-type to Surf. ...Turns out, I still had Jelly the Tentacool. I withdrew her, and taught her Surf. Next up was the training.

One of the places I went to was the water route of Route 105. ...I had passed through here on Mr. Briney's boat before, but now that I can Surf, I decided to take the opportunity to expand the team. That came in the form of Wingull, which I named Rena. ...Another Water/Flying-type. Perhaps she could fill in the shoes of her predecessor. ...Unfortunately, she couldn't learn Surf, so I had to train her.

Eventually, Rena evolved into Pelipper, and after teaching her Surf, I boxed Jelly for now. Then, I took Sandra to train on Route 112, until it reached the mid-20s. ...Sandra is easy to level up, but the problem is that she's as slow as molasses, which could be a problem one day.

After that, it was time for the revenge against New Mauville. We headed back there, and ripped through every Electric-type we saw. No more Electrodes, but plenty of Voltorb and *sigh* Magnemite. I wish I could have been able to catch a Magnemite. It's a lot more useful than Voltorb, and it's pretty good in its own right.

Soon, I reached the generator and switched it off. Back in the city, Wattson gave me perhaps my best reward yet: a Thunderbolt TM. Unfortunately, I didn't have anyone to use it on.

After finishing up with Sandra, I decided to cross the water separating Route 118. I did so, got the Good Rod from one of the Fishermen there, totally stomped the anchorwoman and her cameraman, and ran into Steven, who spouted some stuff before going off somewhere. Whatever. I arrived at some grass, and taking this new opportunity to expand my team, I stepped inside and... well, I sifted through the Pokemon I already had first, before I found a potential new ally.

Electrike. Yes! Finally, an Electric-type I could catch! And thus, Lightning joined the team.

I went back to Mauville, and switched it with Todd, and trained it until it evolved into Manectric two levels later. Sadly, he has the Lightning Rod ability, which is rather useless (at least, moreso than Static). But beggars can't be choosers.

I also decided to train Caliente (Numel) up to level 29, just in case I needed backup (god forbid), and it would also be nice to have some more variety in case I needed it. I put her back into the box, and brought back Sandra.

With all that done, I decided to call it a [hard] day.

Current Team:
Hotblazer, Level 32
Gluttony, Level 32
Phobos, Level 32
Rena, Level 31
Lightning, Level 26
Sandra, Level 29

Deceased:
Ziggy, Level 21
Nigel, Level 28

...I hope you can forgive me, Nigel.

Next, we move on towards the next town. For real this time.
